Overview[]

Location: Ithia

Type: Planet (life-bearing)

Description[]

Gaeth is a life-bearing, earth-like world. Its landmasses and dark oceans are inhabited by a variety of creatures, both mundane and magical.

The dominant sentient species are humans, and their various civilizations are in a mediaval state of technological and social development.

Gaeth's topography tends to leave much of it shadowy and dark, and features large swathes of thick, foreboding forest. It is something of a haunted place, with many supernatural threats to its human inhabitants. As a result it is a dangerous place to inhabit, and human civilization tends to be small, scattered, and precarious.

Notable Places[]

  • Blackwood villages

History[]

Gaeth is one of the many life-bearing worlds on Ithia. Its various feudal kingdoms were generally unremarkable.

Although ostensibly part of Morganem's world-spanning empire, it has received relatively little attention - the scattered, small populations made it impractical for large-scale rule and made large-scale subjugation of Gaeth a low priority.

Just prior to the beginning of To the Bitter End, Kaine Shariven travelled to Gaeth, having been given orders to raise its dead as undead, in order to bulk out Morganem's armies. He 'creatively' interpreted this order, deciding that killing Gaeth's still-living inhabitants would be the fastest way to obtain a large amount of corpses for this purpose.

Subsequently, Fei Serumen appeared on Gaeth after the companions failed attack on Khaal Spire. He was found by Kaine, who used his Necromantic powers to awaken Fei's Beast, causing him to slaughter many of Gaeth's innocent citizens, and giving him access to the many corpses he wanted.

Soul Reaver later arrived on Gaeth, after escaping Greyholm Prison on Baltur. He was unable to prevent Fei from killing several more villages worth of people, but eventually brought Fei to his senses and killed Kaine, freeing Gaeth from his evil.

As seen in the Epilogue of To the Bitter End, life in Gaeth gradually seems to be returning to normal.
