Khaal Spire is a towering fortress standing amidst one the dusty red plains of Dhar. It serves as the seat of power for Morganem and his Council of Six, from which they rule over all of Ithia.

Physical Description[]

Khaal Spire is a massive structure, towering higher than any other building on Dhar. It is a stepped, pyramidal tower, adorned with skulls and other gargoyles. Its appearance is designed to intimidate and serve as a reminder to the Dharuk of Morganem's power in order to stave off any possible ill-considered challenges to his rule.

A pitch-black crystal hangs suspended in the air between several grasping, finger-like protrusions above the tip of Khaal Spire, surrounded by swirling eldritch energies.

The tower's interior houses Morganem's throne room, private chambers for each member of the Council of Six, and all the usual rooms and trappings one might otherwise expect to find inside such a huge fortress in order to sustain its population. It houses a sizable retinue of Dharuk guards and soldiers.

Khaal Spire lacks conventional military defenses such as battlements, drawbridges or murder holes, as Morganem's believed that his sorcerous defenses would render any such mundane defenses irrelevant.

Properties[]

Khaal Spire was constructed over a period of several years by Morganem, purely through the use of his magical powers. Its location was chosen due to it being situation squarely at the intersection of several powerful magical ley-lines that run through Dhar, and it is designed to draw out, focus and store these energies. This magical power is used to power some of Morgnaem's other constructs that are housed within it or near it, such as his Reality Disrupter, the Obelisk of Strength and his Mana Conduits, as well as being a source of magical energy for Morganem to draw upon for some of his more taxing rituals and spells.

The tower would not be able to stand on its own from a practical engineering perspective, but its stone surface is constantly suffused with magical energy that renders it almost indestructible.

The tower also appears to be bigger inside than outside - no doubt another effect of its magical construction.

History[]

Morgnaem created Khaal Spire after his conquest of Dhar to serve as his base of operations for his planned conquest of Ithia. It served him well in this regard, and remained his seat of power ever since.

When The Companions arrived on Dhar in order to overthrow Morganem's rule during To the Bitter End, Khaal Spire offered little direct protection from their swift attack - with the Council of Six all away on errands and Kurgah Ghar's Dharuk forces barely giving The Companions pause, Morganem was forced to call upon the Void Children for aid. They in turn bought him enough time to gather Khaal Spire's energies in order to fire the Reality Disruptor at The Companions, thus staving off his own defeat.

Nonetheless, The Companions would eventually return to Khaal Spire, fighting their way there from the outskirts of a huge Planar Seal. It was within Khaal Spire's throne room that they eventually confronted and defeated Morganem for good.

The battle disrupted the magical ley-lines that sustained Khaal Spire, resulting in the tower collapsing and imploding shortly after The Companions' escape.
