The Reality Disrupter is a huge magical weapon created by Morganem and housed in the heart of Khaal Spire.

Physical Description[]

The Reality Disrupter is a large, elaborate construct consisting of a rune-encrusted base holding a complex array of floating red crystals. It is mounted on a raised platform in the throne room of Khaal Spire.

It is connected to a number of invisible magical ley-lines.

It is controlled via seven Channeling Circles - special rune-covered magical circles situated throughout Khaal Spire. One is located in the Throne Room directly in front of the Reality Disrupter itself, while each of the remaining six are found in the six different areas of Khaal Spire favoured by Morganem's Council of Six.

Properties[]

The Reality Disrupter is a weapon of last resort, designed to fire a magical blast powerful enough to tear ragged holes into the fabric of reality, resulting in The Warp spilling forth and destroying everything around it.

In order to be used, it must be charged up with magical power via the magic ley-lines that run through Khaal Spire, and subsequently fired at a given point. Charging and firing the weapon can be done via any of the seven Channeling Circles carved into Khaal Spire. The charging and firing process can only be performed by a powerful and trained operator: either Morganem or any member of the Council of Six.

The charging process requires the operator to stay within their Channeling Circle and perform an uninterrupted ritual to focus magical power into the Reality Disrupter until the desired power level is reached. While it requires only a single operator to charge and fire the weapon, it is possible for multiple operators to charge it simultaneously - this will cause more power to flow into the device, thus charging it up faster.

The range and power of the device depends on how much charge it has accumulated - the greater the charge and the shorter the range it is fired at, the larger the Warp tear will be. With enough charge, it can create sizable holes in reality several kilometers away. Fired at close range with a high enough charge, it could destroy large parts of Khaal Spire.

If it is charged but not fired, the accumulated energy will swiftly drain from it again.

The violence and suddenness of a Reality Disrupter blast makes it difficult for even Warp Travellers to survive a hit - unless they manage to erect Warp Shields fast enough they will be obliterated in the same way as any physical matter would. Even if they do survive they may become lost in the Warp and/or suffer other adverse effects.

History[]

When the The Companions attacked Khaal Spire at the beginning of To the Bitter End, Morganem's Council of Six were absent and the Companions were barely being slowed by Morganem's Dharuk armies. As such, Morganem decided his best chance was to charge and fire the Reality Disrupter. To buy enough time to do this, he appealed to the Void Children for aid. The Void Children arrived just as the Companions entered the Throne Room and bought Morganem enough time to hastily charge and fire the Reality Disrupter at close range. Due to its low power level at this point, the Companions survived the impact, but it caused temporary amnesia and caused them to be scattered to different worlds throughout Ithia.

After the Companions had reunited, returned to Dhar and forced the remains of the Council of Six (Kaine Shariven had already fallen on Gaeth) to retreat into Khaal Spire, the Council decided to use the Reality Disrupter again. The intent was for them to split up, and each of the five to go to their respective Channeling Circle. Protected by the Dharuk, the Void Children, and each carrying a Power Orb, it was expected that at least one of them would succeeding in completing the charging process and firing the weapon with enough power to obliterate the Companions (and much of Khaal Spire).

This plan was foiled when the Companions split up and intercepted each of the remaining five Warlords at once, before any of them could complete the charging process. With the operators defeated, the Reality Disrupter did not fire.

Soul Reaver expected that Morganem would attempt to fire the Reality Disrupter at the Companions again when they entered the Throne Room, as he had done previously. As such, he asked the rest of the Companions to buy him time while he quickly cast a Sphere of Annihilation spell and fired it at the Reality Disrupter. This managed to destroy the complex device - though it would turn out that at this point, Morganem had no intention of using it anyway...
